Alternative Energy OptionsCanada’s current dependence on fossil fuels is slowly deteriorating in the country. The fossil fuels we use (crude oil, coal, and natural gas) are nonrenewable resources and will run out over time. The burning of these fossil fuels releases harmful toxins into the atmosphere, damaging the ozone layer and the earth.
Alternative energies use renewable resources to generate power. These renewable resources will always replenish themselves. Alternative energies include wind, solar, marine, and hydroelectric energy. Hydroelectric energy uses the natural flow of water to create electricity. These energies are 100 percent green and clean; they produce no emissions or require any fossil fuel based fuel to run them. For a basic overview of the Alternative Energies mentioned, National Geographic Website has covered the majority of the Alternative Energies mentioned on this webpage.
